Cool deal, glad it worked. Thanks for visiting! When I get a little time I'll edit the writeup to mention that nGlide is an option also. If anything it's easier to set up than dgvoodoo is.

Hi Matt, Just wanted to say thank you so much for your amazing work. Got NHL99 running well on Windows 10 - love that nostalgia!
However I can't get NHL 2000 to work - followed the guide including the unsafedisc copy protection crack (which generates 2 exe files!) but I keep getting NHL2K.exe has stopped working as soon as I try to run the game. Any ideas?

Scratch that! Problem solved - instead of copying the NHL2K folder from the cd, I had installed NHL2000 on a Windows XP virtual machine so I used that NHL 2000 folder post install instead (copied to Windows 10 host).
I agree don't put the install folder in Program Files - caused issues for me as well. What solved my issue was the Direct X dll (dx6x.dll) fix from your page pasted into the NHL 2000 folder. So so so happy!
Another tip for people with machines without an optical drive - you will have found that the NHL2000 disc won't allow you create an iso so the alternative is to copy the contents to a folder on your hard drive and then use IsoCreator (free tool - google it) to create iso. Be careful when you mount that it's drive letter matches your registry entries. NHL 99 disc can be easily converted to iso (no DRM protection).
Thanks again Matt, all the virtual stick taps to you!

Thanks, Richie. I've had a couple of reports of the unsafedisc thing not working for 2K. It did for me, who knows why...but I might just post up the fixed .exe file and erase that part of the guide.

Hey guys, anyway to make NHL99 work on windows 7 professional? I installed everything after the guide (for win8/10) and when I start the autorun from cd I get the "play" button, but nothing happens when I click it :/

Hi there,
The autorun launcher will not work; you have to load File Explorer, navigate to your NHL99 folder and run NHL99.exe from there.
You can make a shortcut to the NHL99.exe file and copy it to your desktop to make things easier.

I have tried that, and also with all different kinds of compatability modes :/ It just says "Please run the game from the CDROM"..

OK, that almost always indicates something is wrong with the registry keys. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the CD Directory or CD Drive (or both) entries aren't pointing to the right drive letter.
A couple of questions - did you install the registry key I included in the write-up, and what drive letter is your CD rom drive?

I used the same diretory that you used in tutorial (C:\games\sports\nhl99) so I only edited the CD drive letter to F:\ instead of the one you had. i.imgur.com/pFjdql2.jpg

Thanks for the pic - very helpful! I'm hoping that I see the problem. See how the NHL 99 key folder is located inside of a second Wow6432Node folder? Your keys are located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Wow6432Node\EA SPORTS\NHL 99 It's supposed to be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\EA SPORTS\NHL 99 If you want, download this registry key and try adding this to the registry. This is set up for F: drive CD roms. Try the game then and get back to me. NHL 99 F Drive Key

I'm not really sure how to fix the 2x wow6432Node folders :/ I have no idea how to "move everything one step up in the hierarchy", any ideas?

You don't have to bother with all that - just download and install the NHL 99 F drive key from the last post and it should put everything where it needs to be.

Hi Matt,
I have NHL 99, 2000, 2001 & 2002 all up and running from iso's stored on my desktop thanks to you and your excellent guides (thanks!!), however I can't any joy out of NHL 2003. The installer work's and I've made sure to install to a non Program Files location, checked the registry for correct folder & drive letters - nothing unusual that I can see. I notice you mention in passing that 03 was linked to javascript - is this the reason it won't work on my windows 10 netbook (Acer Aspire V5-123)?
Haven't got a chance to try NHL 04 yet but I fear it'll be a similar problem.... any thoughts/advice?
Thanks again.
