Dude, thank you so much for your NHL Powerplay 98 tools and instructions. I can play the glorious 2D version again! Been trying for years to get it going again.

Holy crap, you're THE Mack from macks hacks? Wow, this is like a celebrity sighting! Lol I have loved playing your hacks over the years - big fan of NHL 94 and the Genesis era games in general. Power play 98 is such a forgotten gem among the old hockey titles. I know I went years without being able to play it either -- I finally stumbled into a fix to make it work on XP, but then when I upgraded to Windows 8 the old fix no longer worked and I was out of luck again until I found dxwnd. Thanks for stopping by!

Haha guilty as charged. Glad you've enjoyed the hacks.
Thanks again for these tips on getting PP98 2D going again. Much appreciated.

Any idea how I can fix transparency issues in the 3d version? Runs beautifully on my new laptop but some graphics (hockey circles, lighting reflections, goal crease) that I imagine should have transparency in some places shows black in those places instead.

Hi Mack
I've seen that before -- have you tried running the 3d mode through dxwnd too? Basically, you would set everything up the same as you would for the 2D version, only set the target to the PP_3D.exe? I tried doing that and don't see any black bars/areas.

OK, I feel I'm bumping a thread, 'cause I have a 3D version problem I'm trying to resolve. Well, what's wrong in this snap below: The crowd and the rafters are all in a color of the ice rather than black and it looks pretty ugly to me. And this was on a hardware mode (rather than a software mode which has a transparent glass issue with it) running on Windows 10 64-bit, doesn't matter if it's running on a compatibility mode (I tested with, on a Windows 95 compatibility mode, and without.) And no, I was trying using DxWnd, to no avail.

Hi, Try playing the 3D mode with dgVoodoo files instead of DxWnd. Download dgVoodoo v2.55.2 from dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.htmlOpen the zip, and unzip d3dimm.dll and ddraw.dll to your Powerplay98 directory. Make sure you have hardware mode selected in the PowerPlay98 configurator, and be sure to turn off Windows 95 compatibility if you have that selected. I can't get a screenshot, but with those files in the crowd and rafters look normal.

It worked, but the dgVoodoo icon during gameplay is throwing me off a little bit.

You can get rid of that -- inside the dgVoodoo zip file is a configuration app - dgVoodooCpl.exe. Unzip that to the PowerPlay folder and run it.
At the top you'll see "config folder/running instance". You have to add your Powerplay folder - can do that quickly by clicking the little backslash button (it's between the X icon and the add icon).
Then, click the DirectX tab, and uncheck "dgVoodoo Watermark".
