Reinstall is what I would suggest too. When in doubt, wipe it all and start over. lol. With 99, I'd try reinstalling the registry key first and see if that fixes the nGlide problem. The invalid chunk error is a totally new one to me. I googled it and found a few forum links -- reports of people experiencing the error with old FIFAs, Need For Speeds, and...NHL 2000. This person had that error way back in 2001. www.sysopt.com/showthread.php?65785-stream-invalid-chunk-messageUnfortunately, there are no solutions in that thread or any of the others I came across. But being as this error was around in 2001, we can rule out Windows 7 as the culprit. Did you install 2000 from a physical CD or an ISO?

DS, I hate it but I think I'm pretty well stumped on your deal.
I've thought about it off and on for the last couple days, and all I can come up with at this point is maybe downloading an older version of nGlide and trying that. Doubt it will do anything, but we're in dart throw mode.
I should have asked this from the beginning, but what kind of computer/laptop is it? Processor type?

It is a Lenovo H50-05 AMD A6-6310 with AMD R4 with 16 Gig RAM
I tried with .96 version and it went all black. I uninstalled the patch and I got the Copyright screen then it crashed.
Thanks for trying.
Using the no cd patching and the latest nglide. I was able to get into the game menu and went to the arena screen before it crashes.
Setting it to 98/ME mode. I was able to play a game. It was slow.I turned off reflections and it was better. I will try 95 and see if that works. The display is also a bit wider then my screen so stuff at the edges are cut off.

I think I got it to work. I changed the Trasher Driver to dx and now it works fine. It is using the dgVoodoo Glide wrapper.

Hi Matt, I installed it from ISO. Today I reinstalled nGlide and registry of nhl 99 and nhl 99 works. But nhl 2000 - today I tried to reinstall it but maybe is problem with the antivirus. Today it showed me a message of nhl2k exe that it is moved to the quaratine - cloud. Maybe the iso I have is not good then. But this setup for win 8 64 bit classicgamefixes.wixsite.com/home/nhl-2000 is the same for win 7 64 bit? As usualy, 1) do a copy of nhl2k folder (located inside ISO), 2) then copy 3d info (then rename it - Setup),3) then - install registry, ok I understand (nGlide installed yet). But then, it is necessary to install this patch if I wanted to play nhl2k in nGlide mode? www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide/compatibilityI think yes, as I did (it should be a step number 4, ok? In the end). Maybe I am wrong. Then, dx6z.dll is not necessary to instal (if I get the "NHL2K.ICD has stopped working" error, then this is a step 5?). So for now I need to get a new ISO first, then I will reinstal the game again. Thank for you answer.

Is it OK if I install NHL 99 on Windows7 x86 ? When I tried to install that on XP I saw the error message like what you said. I really want to play NHL99 on Windows7 x86 because of Wayne Gretzky. Please let me know if it is possible. Thank you so much.

DS - That's great! Glad you got it running. Is the framerate still slow? I get that effect too when using the compatibility modes. Gretzky - If it's an x86 Windows, you should be able install 99 the 'normal' way. Put in the CD - if the autorun pops up, press proceed and then install. Otherwise, open a File Explorer window and navigate to your CD drive - the setup.exe is in the SETUP\ENGLISH folder. Or at least it is for me. After the install completes, you'll want to do the following: (1) Download and install nGlide if you haven't already
(2) Download this registry key and double click on it to add it to your registry. (3) You could try the game at this point. If it doesn't work, download this file. Unzip all contents and run PatchInstall.bat. Roberto Yes - should be the same process for Windows 7, although for whatever reason Win7 users have had the most issues with 99 since I started the site. This would be the short version of the install process: (1) Copy the NHL2K folder to the hard drive. Specifically, C:\Games\Sports\NHL2K if you can. You don't have to bother with the 3dinfo folder - not needed for now; shouldn't even have that in the guide really. (2) Download and install one of the registry keys from the guide. Make sure you pick the one which corresponds to your CD drive letter. (3) Try running the game -- if it fails, yes, go download that file from the nGlide page. Unzip the nhl2k.exe to your game folder to replace the original. The only variable -- I don't know if you'll have to use compatibility settings to make it work. I remember for Windows 8, it was XP Service Pack 3 and run as administrator. Not sure if it's the same for Windows 7. I have a W7 comp at home; will test it later.

2002 goes back to desktop with Intro sounds.
99 is crashing again.

Wow lol
ok, in my experience, the game is not installed message is always registry related. Open regedit and double check to make sure the "Game Directory" and "Install Dir" entries are correct for NHL 2001.
The other thing to do if you haven't already is set the nhl2001.exe to run as administrator. Actually, all of these games should be set to run as administrator.
I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to explain this in a way that makes sense, but -- if you don't run these games as an admin, they tend to create their own registry files in this weird area of the registry called the VirtualStore, and instead of using the 'correct' keys, the game tries to use the ones from the Store. This caused me a hell of a lot of confusion before I finally figured it out one day.
Running as admin 'forces' the game to use the keys located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA SPORTS\NHLxxxx (where xxxx is the year of the game).
With 2002, do you know if you're running dx or Glide mode?

Hi Matt, so today I reinstaled nhl2k again. Game directory as usualy C:\Games\Sports\NHL2K. Kompatibility as usualy XP Service Pack 3 and ran as administrator. It was necessary to copy nhl2k.exe from that patch from nGlide site to run the game. nGlide works. Game launched properly. But after 1 minute of playing it pops that message again - STREAM - invalid chunk. I dont realy know whats the problem. Antivirus was ok with everything now. Damn it If u have some tips for me to solve this problem let me know Thak you for your time and answer. Robert

Matt. For 2001. It was not set to Run as admin. I changed that and ran the nglide patch and it goes back to the desktop and has sound. Did not see that registry location though. 2002 is set to dx

RobertoFew questions for you: did you use the same iso as before, or a different one when you reinstalled? If it's the same, do you know where you got it from? You say it crashes after about a minute -- does it crash only once you're playing an actual game, or while you're sitting at the menu? Or both? That error is so vague that it really makes it difficult. Maybe try installing the EA patch, see if that shakes anything up. NHL 2000 Patch
DS - I know it's a broken record, but if you haven't already try Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode on with 2001. There's a fix inside those modes called ForceApplicationFocus, which is supposed to prevent exactly what you're describing. Whether it does or not is another story. lol For 2002 I'd do the same thing. If it doesn't help, download the NHL 2002 files from the nGlide site. You'll see by NHL 2002 it'll say, To play you must run 'nhl2002.reg' and replace 'nhl2002.exe' from here. Click on the "here" to download the files, then unzip and run the registry key inside. That'll set it for glide mode. If that doesn't work then try unzipping the nhl2002.exe.
