Hi Jeremy, thanks for stopping by!
That is really, really weird. I searched that error and it seems to occur in a wide variety of programs (even found one person who had the error with Clue way back in 2007). Not too encouraged with what I saw - no one seems to know how to fix it. I'll keep looking and see if I find anything.
I feel obligated to ask you what version of Windows you're using and how much RAM you have. I can't imagine it's actually a RAM issue, though. Almost has to be something else entirely.

I'm using Windows 10 with 8GB of ram. Funny thing is I've tried every compatibility mode possible and got no results, but I tried it on an older Windows 7 computer and it worked fine. Not ideal since that computer is a piece of junk and I'd prefer to play it on my regular laptop, lol.

lol - no matter how long I mess with these games I see new ways for them to get squirreled up! I have Win10 w/8 GB RAM too, so I know it's *possible*. Really wonder what the difference could be. Hardware compatibility issue, maybe? It's so hard to say as I've seen people with Windows XP who have the same error.
So far I have nothing, but I'll drop you an e-mail if I eventually come up with the right fix. Hopefully you still want to play at that time. lol

Hey Matt, thanks for putting this together. I'm trying to put this game onto a laptop (windows 10). I got the game running, I applied the patch so I can enter player names, but I get stuck on the "Entering the Mansion" screen. An error message pops up and tells me the SmartHeap Library is "Out of Memory. Please free up some memory, then choose retry." Selecting ignore tells me I have a fatal error for access violation. Have you ever run into this before? If you could email me any help, that would be great. (boingjb@gmail.com) Thanks.

Hi Dana -- could you post up a screenshot of what happens when you try to enter the mansion? Or the text of the error log file? I had something sort of like that once before - except in my case the game would crash before the intro video would load. Wish I could remember exactly what I did...I think I used the K-Lite Codec pack to fix the AVI video Codec inside Windows. I'm having a similar problem. I can start the game, enter my name and select characters to play, then the Enter the Mansion animation begins, with the vine growing across the screen, and it never finishes loading. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey Makoman I will post the step by step process i did. 1) Download from this site:https: //www.oldpcgaming.net/clue-murder-at-boddy-mansion/ -takes a little while to download, doesnt need to be registered after downloading 2) Once downloaded extract files with 7zip to any folder. 3) Download PowerISO Site: www.poweriso.com/download.php-select 32 or 64 bit depending on your PC 4) Open PowerISO, select open at the top. -select the BIN file extracted in step 2. 5)Now you should see the files in poweriso. Select extract at the top and put in another folder. 6)Now select Mount in top of PowerISO -Click mount image to drive then select the ISO file extracted in step 2 -^May have to set number of drives to 1 first in the Mount drop down menu if u cant do previous step 7)Go to folder created in step 5. -Set compatibility of install file to windows 98 by right clicking and selecting properties. -Run install -Select language then largest data size -Select yes or ok for remaining items -The drives and stuff at the end may fail but dont worry 8)Select the newly installed clue game and set compatibility of executable to windows 98. 9)Run and have fun. The only thing i cant get to work on it is the LAN multiplayer. If anyone has ideas they would be greatly appreciated

Makoman, I've got the CD and for some reason it doesn't work if I try to open Clue.exe, but it works if I run it through install.exe (as administrator). No idea why but it works fine that way.
Apart from LAN multiplayer. I've been messing around with my firewall and network settings for a while trying to play it with my sister but no luck so far...

Matt – Using your patch and link to the latest version I have Clue up and running on Win-10 with no problems. Thank you.
I have a question pertaining to game play. Is there any way to pause the game? When an opponent makes a suggestion the banner at the bottom of the screen goes by too fast to analyze the suggestion before continuing to the next opponent.

Hello, just wanted to say thanks for the patch ^^ Also, I need to ask a question: Do I install your typing patch before or after Patch 2.2?

So i did a lot of wrestling to get this to boot up, and with the patch it *almost* works fine. Aside from the soft lock error other people have mentioned (annoying, but can live with) all of the music comes out as horrible buzzing! And absolutely none of the videos play! Doyou know how I can fix this?
I downloaded it from an old games site, and am using it on 64-bit Win 10. Thanks in advance!

I too am getting a horrible buzzing noise in place of music.
