Used directions to put UY on HD. Works for Classic Yahtzee only. Any suggestions to get other Yahtzee formats to work?

Hi Daniel, thanks for visiting. Did you download the Yahtzee.ini file from the guide and copy it to your C:\Windows directory? That file is required in order for the other variations to work - and depending what version of Windows you're using, you might have to set your Yahtzee.exe to run as administrator as well. If you're still having problems I can post up a different version of the ini - you'll have to have the CD in your disk drive in order to play, which is kind of a buzz kill, but if it works it works.

Hi Matt, I'm having a problem in copying the 3 dll files from the RWWIN folder over to the SysWOW64 folder. A window pops up with the message - "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder"
I'm running a desktop pc on Windows 8.1
How can I provide the necessary permission?
Thanks,

Hi Mac,
There should be an option to "continue" within that popup. Click that and the files will copy over.
If not, the other thing you can do is copy the DLLS over to the Yahtzee folder itself. Since it isn't a protected system folder, you shouldn't get that popup.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the speedy response. I did hit the "continue" button, but it came back with the following message: "Invalid MS-DOS function" It then offers the following options - try again, skip or cancel. Try again gave the same result and skip didn't do anything in copying the DLL file.
When I attempted to copy the DLLs over to the Yahtzee folder itself, I got a Interrupted Action pop up window with the same "Invalid MS-DOS function" message.

MS-DOS? Wow. I've never heard of that error before, but apparently a ton of people have had that. May sound silly, but try restarting your computer if you haven't already. Saw where a lot of people posted that took care of the problem. Also saw several suggestions to do a disk optimization (defragment and optimize drives). If it still won't work after a restart, maybe try copying files off of a different CD to see if you get the invalid function then? Can't discount that it might be a bad CD.

Hey Matt!
I want to say.....A Huge Thank you! I've searched hard to find a way to run Ultimate Yahtzee on my windows 7 laptop working around compatibility issues and found your tutorial after I got the ISO files I needed! Ultimate Yahtzee is one of my favorite 90's games and still is as I love Playing Yahtzee! It was really simple enough instead of stupid coding and all that....
Again a huge thank you for this opportunity to play that game on Windows 7 without any complications and perhaps spread this out to other 90's dudes who love this game!
~Steven

You're welcome! Glad it was helpful to you. I still think this is the best version of Yahtzee available. It really set itself apart with the variations like painted and battle.

Matt,
Would this fix work if you had the files downloaded on your PC already and just copied them from there? I have Win 10 now and I can't find my CD for this game. I'm having Painted withdrawals!! Lol !!

Hi Diana I can't say for sure that it will work without knowing exactly what files you have, but it's worth a try. If you do run into trouble, I can send you what's called an ISO file - basically, all the contents of the CD in one file. In Windows 10 you can then "mount" this ISO file, and it'll function just like an actual CD.

Hi Olivia,
Well that's not good...lol. If the game itself is running, as long as you copied the yahtzee.id to the C:\Games\Board\Yahtzee folder, and copied the yahtzee.ini to C:\Windows, it should be working.
Maybe open the yahtzee.ini in wordpad and double check that the first line says this:
[Setup] CDID=C:\Games\Board\Yahtzee\yahtzee.id

So it looks like in the windows the yahtzee.ini has created another file. The original ini is still there, but then there is another with the player names and high scores. On that one the top line it says [Players]. I'm not sure if that is the problem? Well whenever I go and try to fix it to have the top line say the CDID it will not let me save it. It denies me access. I'm not sure what to do now.

OK, if you don't have it anymore, try redownloading the yahtzee.ini from the guide, save it to your desktop, and do a drag and drop from there to the Windows folder. See if it will let you overwrite the old file that way...here's a short video to show what I'm talking about.
