ok, just tested it for myself and it simply will *not* work if the yahtzee.id is inside Program Files. As a personal rule I try not to install anything inside of P.F. folders because of crap like this. I thought running as an administrator might fix it, but it didn't. So, couple of options here. You can copy the yahtzee.id to a different, Non-Program Files directory, or even just make a new directory and dump the yahtzee.id inside it (e.g. create a folder called "Games" on your hard drive, copy yahtzee.id there, edit .ini as follows). [Setup] CDID=C:\Games\YAHTZEE.ID Or, if that still doesn't work, you can try and point it to the yahtzee.id file on the CD itself. If your CD letter is D: it would look like this: [Setup] CDID=D:\YAHTZEE.ID Just make sure when you edit the file that it is actually saving as an .ini. By default in notepad, when you go to save, it'll try and have you save it as a .txt file. When you go to save you have to select "All Files" under "Save as type". Plus, if your system is anything like mine you'll have to save it to desktop or some other folder first, then drag it to your C:\Windows folder to actually copy it there because of the Windows permissions stuff.

I used the method for pointing it to the Yahtzee ID and the CD and it worked. No issues. Didn't have to move any files around. Thank you for the help I really appreciate it. And if there's any other games we can try to get working, i can post them in the suggestion forum.

Hello Matt!
This was the first game I tried to install on my new 64bit machine only to find out it wouldn't install. Now I'm playing it once again!!! Thank you!!!
I've encountered one problem that maybe you can fix. When I save a game and then later on load that game, Yahtzee will crash upon game completion. Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening???
Thanks again for bringing back my favorite dice game!!!
David

Hello David - you're welcome and thank you for the kind words. Always nice to see people who enjoy these oldies. Re: the save feature, I just did some testing and I get the same crash. I even tried it on a Windows XP system with the same result, so it might be a bug with the actual game code. I find that just saving the game at all is enough to trigger it. Like, if you save a game, don't exit out, and just finish the round it still dies in the same way. I kind of doubt I can do anything with it, but I will mess with it some more. Doesn't seem like Hasbro ever released a patch for this game, either.. At least it does seem to save your high score before it crashes, so, there's that.

Yes, it does save the high score which is cool. I always played saved games before and don't remember it crashing...

Hi,
Just wanted to take a quick moment and say THANKS for the tutorials on how to get these old games running in Windows 10! I thought I'd never get to play them again, and your tutorials were quick and easy! And the Boggle / Yahtzee games I tried worked great!
Thanks again.

Only classic works, it says that the cd is required for the other modes, can you help me fix this?

Hi Tom, sorry I never got back to you. Hope you check back in here.
I had someone come through once before who had a similar issue to that, and what worked was editing the yahtzee.ini file to point to the actual CD drive.
You'd have to open the file in notepad and change the top of the file to read like this:
[Setup] CDID=D:\YAHTZEE.ID
Of course if your CD drive letter isn't D you would have to change that to whatever your CD rom drive is. The drawback to this is you would need the physical disk in the drive in order to play, but if it works, it works.

Thank you so much. The game works great and I don't need the original disc for playing all parts of the game. The coloured yahtzee, the pyramid and so on. I installed it on my windows 10 pc. Anne

Hi Matt, I had a question! I'm trying to reply my old yahtzee cd and i do have it in. I believe I did all of your steps and I can get the game to play, but only the classic version. I downloaded your ini and i did my original cd one as well, but nothing seems to work and I even have the cd in- even though it keeps saying I don't. Id appreciate any help you can give!

Thanks, this was exactly what got it working . One minor problem though, is that neither the sound effects nor the loop music seem to work...if you could give a solution for that that'd be great.
