Still haven't figured out the accessories thing, but that's not a big deal. You might want to add a link to this board to every game manual. Maybe tell people their feedback is welcome and that they can post here questions/impressions. By the way, for some reason I couldn't register here. I tried and tried but it wouldn't work for me, so I'm still a guest. Also, Did you change the look of this forum? It looks like something straight from the late 90's. Fits quite well with the games we are dealing with here...ha. I don't recall a way to do that since the same arms & legs were used for everyone. For headbands, they were put on the cyberfaces themselves. I remember in Live 2001 I made player specific arms and legs for accessories but don't tihnk it was possible in 98

So I've followed all of the steps but when I click on the shortcut for Live 98, it doesn't seem to be working. I think it might be an issue with the location of the NBA 98 folder. where are those files supposed to be copied to?

Hi Live, thanks for visiting What operating system are you using? Do you get an error message when you click the shortcut or does it just sit there? I don't think the location of the folder matters. I have my folder in C:\Games\Sports\NBA98, so you can try that if you want...but I really don't think that's it. If you read my other guides I usually say a game has to go in such and such directory -- usually because the registry keys refer to the directory the game is in. Live '98 doesn't seem to require reg keys, and in fact I can move the game around from folder to folder on my HD and it will still launch. Have you tried launching the game straight from the NBAWIN.exe, meaning no shortcut?

Hi Matt! I just wanna say this is an awesome site you've got going here, and I bet it helps out a lot of people. I know this thread is for NBA Live 98 and 99, but I'm having some trouble with Live 2000. I followed all of your steps on how to get it work, and copied all the right files, but when I try to run the "autorun" application from the Games > Sports > nba2000 folder, it has an error saying:
Assertion failed! Program: C:\Games\Sports\nba2000\autorun.exe File: file\trees.c Line: 855 Expression: !tree_file_added
Should I be running it from something else other than the "autorun?" I have Windows 10 64-bit, on an HP Pavilion laptop. Hope you can help me out!

Hi Michael! Yes, run the nbawin.exe file to start the game -- I just tried the autorun.exe and I get the same error as you, which makes sense as I also have an HP Pavilion laptop. Lol. Apologies for how poorly written that Live 2000 guide is right now; I'm amazed you were able to follow that as well as you did. I wrote it all yesterday in one draft, and it shows. Let me know if launching the nbawin.exe works.

No luck, unfortunately. I tried running the nbawin.exe from the Games > Sports > nba2000 folder. Then it asks me for my administrator permission, I say yes, but then nothing happens.

Did you download the no CD patch? That's required for Windows 10. Otherwise you'll get the administrator popup. You have to download this file and unzip it to the live 2000 folder -You'll know if you did it right because you'll get a prompt asking you to overwrite the original file. NBA live 2000 no cd

Ok, I downloaded the patch and replaced the nbawin.exe, but after that it's still the same result: It asks me for administrator, and then just sits there after I try to run it. The nbawin file says it's from 11/8/1999, so that makes me think it's the same exact thing. Kinda stumpted here.

I'm stumped, too. You shouldn't be getting that with the no-cd patch in. The reason that message comes up is because Windows 10 removed support for SafeDisc copyright protection, but the no-cd should take that out of the equation. I can think of any number of errors you could be getting right now, but not that one! lol I seriously doubt this will work but it's all I've got right now -- here's a different version of the nbawin.exe to try. This one isn't a no cd; you have to have the CD in the drive, otherwise it'll whine to you about an invalid CD drive. nbawin.exe #2

Well Matt, still not working, just sits there. I'ts not like I cant play Live 2000 though, I've got an old Windows XP desktop that runs it fine. Really hope I haven't wasted your time trying to work through this big mess!

Nah man, not at all! I don't get many posts here, and I'm always happy to see them. I'm just sorry I wasted *your* time. lol
Bugs me because I'm sure it's something relatively simple that I'm overlooking. Your game isn't a European version by chance, is it?

No, it isn't, it says 'Manufactured in USA' on the disc.

Hey Matt! Thank you for this great guide. I've tried installing NBA Live 99, I went through all the passages you wrote, I get the 3dfx logo on my screen, and then...
"Abort Message" exception address: 0x77c1e49b
File: ehandler.c Function: NBAExceptionFilter Line: 216
I tried with all the compatibilities, disabling themes etc, but I keep getting that same error message... any idea what I might be doing wrong?
