It's a false positive, mk. Check out this post on the Steam forum - does a good job of explaining why it gets flagged. dgVoodoo false positive

Hi matt, thanks for the information -- but Firefox detects it, not my anti-virus. So it won't download.

Hm, you're right. Can try downloading it in another browser (opera, chrome, edge, ie) or in Firefox, do this Download the file again, then, in the menu bar, click the little arrow with the red dot next to it You should get a small rectangular box. Hover your mouse cursor over it; it should turn red and say 'show more information'. Click that. It'll say this file contains a virus bla bla. Click open and it should open in whatever program you have set to handle zip files.

FYI, the recent Creator's Update may wreck dgVoodoo, did for me, had to re-download and setup again.

So, I moved NHL99 to my laptop, and installed it properly, but neither nGLIDE or dgVoodoo are 'grabbing' the game. It, won't run in 3D, just in crappy 800x600, but on my HTS box it runs off of dgVoodoo without any problems. The major difference between the two is that my laptop has discrete graphics (NVIDIA GTX960m), in addition to Intel Graphics 530. Thoughts?

Hey JP! It's cool seeing you again - I think you were my 1st or 2nd member here. Lol. Hope you're well.
I would load the registry editor and search for NHL 99 just to see if there are any 'extra' keys somewhere. I mention earlier in the thread about the VirtualStore keys that the game creates when it's not run in administrator. It could be that my patch isn't taking hold for whatever reason, and it's not running in administrator mode.

Hi Matt!
Followed your steps as to my knowledge, end up with "This game isnt properly installed on the harddrive". Im thinking there might be an issue with the fact that i dont have any cd-drive? So the regkeys arent working?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi there Robert!
Typically, that error happens when the "Game Directory" specified in the regkey does not match the directory you have the .exe in. I don't think it has anything to do with the CD per se.
Try to open registry editor (Windows key + R to open a run window, then type regedit), then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > WOW6432NODE > EA SPORTS > NHLXX (Where XX is the year of your game) and double check that Game Directory entry .. actually, I wouldn't mind if you could post up a screenshot of that entire screen; I might be able to see what's wrong.

I managed to get the game installed correctly I think. When I installed the patch it said it was installed correctly. But when I try to open the game, it just never opens and never gives an error either.

Hi Matt, I recently tried following your advice regarding installing NHL 2000 on my 64-bit Windows 8.1 PC (as per your link: classicgamefixes.wixsite.com/home/nhl-2000), and I had the physical disk with the original game on it. After following all of your instructions, so far the games continues to not work. Is there anything else you would recommend that I do. Please reply at your earliest convenience. Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the guide. I succesfully installed NHL 98. However I try to install NHL 2000 on W7 and I was not succesfull.
I follow your steps carefully however I was unable to install the EA patch as it said the game is not installed properly. I ignor it and continue another steps. However when I try to launch the game the game done nothing, no error message.
Do you have some ideas?

Hi Beliefer,
So sorry I haven't gotten back to you - I started working a new job which has left with me almost no free time the last couple weeks. If you're still checking in here, what happens when you try to run the game? Do you get any error messages or response at all?
Dorn,
The EA patch error I can duplicate if I delete the registry keys, so my guess is that issue is there. I would double check to make sure you have the game installed to the exact same directory as is shown in the key. Install Dir and Game Directory have to be exact .. the patch looks for the NHL2k.exe in the folder listed - if it doesn't find it, it throws up that error.
Do you have the NHL2k.exe set to run as administrator? If so, do you get an error message if you turn admin mode off?

I have the NHL 2002 CD Rom. I run windows 7 on my laptop. When I put in the CD, the install runs fine, no issues. But then, when I click on the game to start it, nothing happens. Literally nothing at all. I tried the glide, then when I tried to start the game it said my graphics card was out of date. I tried some other patches and it's back to doing nothing when I try to start it. ef7194.tmp pops up in my processes for a second, then disappears and nothing happens. I've tried running in just about every compatibility I can. When I also changed the colors and then tried to run, the screen kind of freaked out a couple times and ultimately nothing happened. I am not super tech when it comes to registries and such.
