Hi neon!
Could you paste your registry information here the way I showed Jet? The key information will be located in
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\NHL 98
I believe you have the drive right, but it still helps me a lot to be able to see what you've got. Is worth probably 10 posts back and forth.

Hello, when I try to run NHL 2002 on Windows 7 I get to the menu screen, but it won't let me move the cursor, and theres screen tearing -- so even if I am moving it it doesn't visibly show. Please help thank you.

You're welcome neon, thanks for coming back to let me know what you did! MK - no problem, I'm slow too these days. First try running it in Glide mode to see if that works any better. Download and install nGlide if you haven't already, then download this file. Inside there should be a file called nhl2002.reg. Unzip it and run the nhl2002.reg file to add it to your registry. Try the game after that and see if it is better behaved.

Glide mode worked once -- and only once, but it was really laggy and poorly optimized (as expected from trying to use a newer version of Windows the game was designed for) On Vista, Direct3D mode worked perfect and as intended. From my understanding 7 is pretty much a Vista SP4.

It's similar but it gets weird with different DirectX versions. Not too sure. 7 was the one Windows I never really got into so I don't know as much about it. Let's try dgvoodoo with it. Download dgvoodoo2 v2.54 from here. Open the zip file and look inside the "3Dfx" subfolder. Unzip glide2x.dll to your NHL2002 folder. (C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\NHL 2002 if you used the default. Possibly C:\Program Files (x86)\EA SPORTs\NHL 2002 if you're on a 64-bit Windows). Try the game again. If still crappy we can try dgVoodoo's Direct X mode -- revert the game to direct3d by running the 3dsetup program. Might be in your start menu inside the EA SPORTS\NHL 2002 folder. Otherwise, have to open up File Explorer and navigate to your NHL 2002 directory manually. Should be a folder named 3dsetup inside it. click on that, then run 3dsetup exe When the configurator opens, select your video card and press OK. This will revert it to direct3d again Open the dgvoodoo zip back up. This time, open the "MS" subdirectory. Unzip ddraw.dll and d3dimm.dll to the NHL 2002 folder. Try the game again and see what happens.

Hello.
Your site is awesome as I lived and breathed these games as they came out.
Got each game working beautifully in 4k !!! EXCEPT 02
No matter what I do it seems to be stuck in DirectX instead of switching to Glide?
I completely removed all registry references, reinstalled and followed all instructions to the T...still stuck in like 640x480.
Tried both nGlide (my preference) as well as dgVoodoo and neither one takes over.
Windows 10 by the way.

Hey Snide. Do you have the game set to run as administrator? If not, that's the first thing I would try. I know you said you deleted all the registry references - the only thing is the older EA games act weird with the registry. If you don't run them as administrator, they create registry references in this weird "VirtualStore" folder, and then it will refer back to those reg keys every time the game starts, instead of the proper ones.

Bang on! Worked like a charm! Was also wondering why some registry changes weren't taking effect (changed disc drive letter) but now I know why. Thanks again.
