You need to have the CD in the drive or you'll get that. The registry key could be pointing to the wrong letter; which drive letter is your CD-ROM drive?

Always possible, but I kind of doubt it. More likely it's just not picking up that the CD is there for some reason. I have to call it a night here, but let's try it again tomorrow. Maybe try re-adding the registry key just for hahas.

Hi Stuart - thanks for that info! My problem has been that I can never get it to crash on my end. I don't see the animations or any videos. I never played this game when it came out, so I honestly don't know *what* they're supposed to look like. I played for like an hour tonight and I didn't see one animation (or crash)
Do you know of a 'quick method' to trigger a crash? If I saw it, maybe I could do something.
This is what I get for putting a game on the site I never really played lol

Thanks for coming back, When it used to run after each computer player was killed they'd be a short animation clip where it'd represent the computer player being guillotine. I setup a new ultimate game on Europe with battle boxes off and all the computer opponents, i killed the black played and could see it attempt to run the animation but it looked like it skipped it but didnt crash, then i killed another and again same thing happened so thought great all sorted, but when i killed the next it tried to play the animation again but crashes it. I know its a real long shot as it is a old classic game. Thanks again for replying

Hi Matt Appreciate your work. Tried to install risk but it does not work. Screen flashes black and then returns to the file screen. It is the same behavior as when I tried to install through windows 10 old software. The .exe file on my CD is different than yours - it has no logo and is a different size. The date stamp for the file is the same as yours. It was also not in the english file, no exe file was. My exe file was not in a subfolder. Any ideas?

Hey there Ken, Have you tried the .exe I posted earlier in the thread? It's buried on the page before and easy to miss. If not, try this and see if it's helpful. Risk.exe link

Hi Fairbanks, I know next to nothing about Macs, unfortunately. Maybe someone else will have an answer.

Thanks Matt !
Just read your post about using an old Risk CD on a new PC.
I am going to try this when I get a chance.
Kudos to you.

Hey guys,
I just stumbled over this thread and finally got RISK working after years of searching for a solution to get it run. My game always crashed, when I tried to save a game. So I unchecked the "read-only" box in the properties of the "SAVEGAME" folder and now it works fine. Maybe you can try this also for the "ANIMS" folder. Right now my game works without problems.
Thanks Matt for your great advice

Hi Matt
Firstly thanks very much for the explanation on how to install the game. Every in-game aspect works perfectly.
The only thing i can't do is save a game it seems. I've only tried it on ultimate risk but the game stops working when i try.
Any ideas on what i need to do to solve it?
Thanks in advance
Rob
