Your workaround didn't work with my original CD-ROM, but it worked like a charm with this image: archive.org/details/risk96(simply mounted via windows explorer) I just finished an eight hour session, no crash, no glitches, no nothing. Everything works. Thank you! One of my favorite games (and time waster :-)), playable again, after years! |

Well, it was working great now it crashes and I get a message that RISK.EXE has stopped working. Any ideas?

I downloaded the game from myabandonware but i cannot get it to work at all keeps saying Please insert Risk CD into Drive. I have Windows 10.

Greetings! First, I want to say thank you! I love the ultimate version of this game so it's great playing this on my computer again instead of having to dig out my PS1 to play it on.
However, during game play random mass amounts of armies show up for the enemy in a country (with no general or capital). Example: a random country like Italy will just have 266 armies after a turn that wasn't there before and that enemy didn't get because they lost a lot or exchanged prisoners and like I said, has no general either. This shouldn't be possible and basically makes the game un-winnable. Does this happen to anyone else?

I first ran the registry to run the program from the disc but found that after playing for a long time, the game would end up freezing and the random mass armies would show up. So, next I corrected the registry to run everything from the HD instead of using the disc. Everything worked fine except the same thing with the random mass armies. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

so i put just the folders and files specified and ran the thingy to play on windows 10 and it was running great for about 2 weeks played about 30 hours only crashed onc. then it stopped working and keeps asking me to insert disk? not sure what to do.

Thank you for posting the edit instructions. I am looking forward to playing my old RISK CD again on windows 10. I tried following your instructions but it failed. Here is the path to the folder where I saved all of the files off of the CD: "C:\Users\thega\Desktop" Here are my edits to your file:

I just created a "Risk" folder under C:\Games\Board so the path is now C:\Games\Board\Risk. I moved all of the files to this folder and downloaded a new risk registry key file so everything would match and deleted the original file I edited. It still isn't working. Any thoughts?
