Had same problem with English folder as another guest. Just shows Maps. (Using windows 10). Game still will not run. Downloaded your zip file of risk.exe FYI, no risk pic as you indicate, so maybe something wrong their.

I got the game running just fine with the registry fix. However, I am running into the problem that others are getting. Which is an enemy country will all of a sudden get 266 (or something close to that number) out of nowhere. And it doesn't have a general or close to anywhere getting those kind of numbers in 1 tile. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Any thoughts on how to fix that? Hi Keith I too face the same problem. My favourite game mode is SCENARIO. An hour or so into the game, my enemies with have 200-350 armies suddenly popped up between 1 upto 4 territories! Also, without general present, a territory have has more than 20 soldiers - which by right is not allowed under the game rules! Totally mess up my game play!

so i put just the folders and files specified and ran the thingy to play on windows 10 and it was running great for about 2 weeks played about 30 hours only crashed onc. then it stopped working and keeps asking me to insert disk? not sure what to do. Hi Meatball I face the exact same situations - strange sudden appearance of massive armies in enemies' territories, and, when that happens, the game froze not long after. Guess the game program cannot process that many armies, but if so, it's a vicious cycle cos the bug in the game created those huge armies. Anyone fellow Ultimate Risk have a solution to overcome above? I play the game on compatibility mode Windows 95. Tried XP service pack 3 but also same problems. My laptop is 64bit Windows 10.

Hello Matt, Great fix!!!! I had a few issues, but I worked them all out. My install runs without the CD and works great. Thank you for posting this and including the registry edit!!! I made a word document with the steps I took including backchecking the registry and tweeking the exe properties if you're interested. Thanks again.

I just discovered this forum after 3 years of trying to revive this game. I've got a CD, but can't get the game running. I've tried the reg entry key mode, copying the files, even tried running a Win95 emulator.

Hi, Matt! I've just found this thread and have made use of both the registry hack and the SAVEGAME tip. Thanks!
In Windows 11, the Random Events doesn't work at high speed and the number of available generals and forts is not displayed. Where the number available should be is simply blank.
If the forum allows it, you can notify me of your reply by email as I'm not sure how often you view it, the last post being eight years ago.
I'll check back from time to time.
Thanks again!

Hi, I hope this can still be helpful in 2024, but I am currently trying to follow the steps provided to put RISK on a x64 machine (Win 10 Pro) but after ensuring to have the correct files copied into the drive I wanted to use (R:/Games/RISK), I noticed a couple potential issues:
SAVESETUP is only listed as a file folder listed as SETUP compared to the images provided, but otherwise all steps were matched, including changing registry to R:/Games/RISK/VIDEO, etc.
When I saved the edited registry and then ran it, I then proceeded to double-click the application to launch, but nothing happens.
I then tried to copy the additional files as if to get it to run without a CD and re-edited the CDPATH in the registry to R:/Games/RISK, with no change.
Then lastly, I went into the application's settings, and changed the setting for 640x480 resolution, and now double-clicking the application causes a brief flicker of a black screen, and then nothing.
Any suggestions for a fix or troubleshooting?
