Hi Matt I´ve tried to launch game from NHL2K.exe from my original NHL2000 CD and from created folder C:Games/Sports/NHL2K as well, and result is the same. Still nothing happened. The game ask me if I want to launch it as administrator and then nothing. Hi. I know you said you followed all the steps, but if you could, double check that the replacement .exe from the guide got copied over to the NHL2k directory. That 'launch as administrator' popup is the error that is supposed to fix - Windows 10 dropped support for the copy protection that EA used, so you have to 'crack' the exe to make it work. If it still doesn't work we can try the crack for v1.0 next.

I´ve replaced it for the second time just for sure. If I try to launch the game from this replaced .exe it wrotes me Please launch the game from CD-ROM, if I launch it from CD - Launch with administrator privileges and try again. Then I launch it as administrator and it´s the same, nothing.

OK, believe it or not that "Please run the game from the CD-ROM" popup is a good thing - means we're getting closer. Don't bother with the CD exe; it will never work on Windows 10.
Do you have the replacement exe set to run as administrator? If not, do that first and try launching it again. Hard to explain here, but sometimes if you don't run as administrator, the game doesn't look for the registry keys in the correct spot.
If it still doesn't work, press Windows key + R on your keyboard to pop open a run box, and type regedit. Open the following folders in order:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE WOW6432NODE EA SPORTS NHL 2000
On the right side of the screen, check that "CD Directory" and "CD Drive" match the letter of the drive you have your game CD or ISO in.

Finally, we did it. I´ve edited the letter in register from wrong F to right E and it´s working. Thanks for your help. You´re awesome.

Hi Matt! I'm trying to get the old NHL2000 working with your guide step by step, but I can't get it working. In the end it says that "Please run the game from the CDROM". My original CD has been lost for years now, but I have copied the files to my hard drive years ago. I'm wondering if I still could somehow get the game working.. I'm wondering if the problem is with my .iso, because I'm pathetically trying to make .iso from the files. My guess is I need to find the original CD and then try again with your guide. Still hoping you could help me, Sampo

Hi Sampo!
Don't feel bad - I have also tried that 'make the iso from the files' idea. Worked about as well for me as it has for you. Lol. There are a bunch of no cd patches out for 2000, but I have never gotten any of them to work either. You click the .exe and it just sits there doing nothing.
Could you do me a favor and make an account here at the forum? I'd like to send you a private message.
Matt

Hi Dan That message usually comes up when the CD Drive and CD Directory keys in the registry don't match the letter of the drive you have the disc or ISO in. Press Windows key+R or click Run in the start menu to pop up a Run window. Type regedit. Once inside the registry editor, navigate to the following folder: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA Sports\NHL 99Look for CD Drive and CD Directory. Double click on one of the entries to bring up this edit string box. You can make your changes in the value data box. My key is set up for CD drive E. For a D drive these lines should read: CD Directory: D:\NHL99\ (don't forget to add the \ after NHL99...that is actually important) CD Drive: D:\

Hey, Matt:
I downloaded the no disk version of NHL 2001, and I keep getting the message that states, "This game has not been properly installed..."
I see others are having this issue. If you could help, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jet! OK, do me a favor - open up a regedit window like I showed Dan in the message directly above yours. Scroll to the following folder: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA Sports\
Double clicking on the EA SPORTS folder should expand it, and you should then see "NHL 2001" in the listing. Do a RIGHT mouse button click on this NHL 2001 folder, and select "Export" from the menu. You'll see this Export Registry File window. Save the file on your desktop, and make sure you have "Save as type" set to registration files (reg.). After you've exported the file, bring up your desktop. Right click on the reg file, and select Edit from the popup menu. This should open up a notepad window. What I want you to do is copy everything from this notepad window and paste it here at the forum. It should look something like this: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA Sports\NHL 2001] "DisplayName"="NHL 2001" "Language"="English" "CD Drive"="E:\\" "Install Dir"="C:\\Games\\Sports\\NHL 2001 "Product GUID"="{BBA471C0-5EF2-11D4-0091-A500A0245DC0}" "Installed From"="E:\\" "Region"="NA" "3D Device Description"="AMD Radeon HD 7600G" "3D Card"="AMD Radeon HD 7600G" "Thrash Driver"="voodoo2" "Group"="3dfx" "D3D Device"=dword:00000000 "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000001 "Hardware Acceleration"=dword:00000001 "Thrash Resolution"="640x480"

I should probably mention that I have the disk version for NHL 2001 downloaded to my hard drive, too. Does this make a difference? I did the same for, what I assume is the disk version and got this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Sports\NHL 2001]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Sports\NHL 2001\ergc] @="1500616885021734001927"

ok, I notice a couple of things. If you look at "Game Directory" and "Install Dir" in the text, those should be the same directory. They need to point to the directory you installed the game to (the folder on your hard drive that you have the NHL2001.exe in).
Honestly, I think the best thing to do would be to uninstall the game and reinstall it, if possible. Only this time, I would change the install directory to something like C:\Games\NHL 2001. I would keep it out of the desktop or Program Files folders entirely.
I'm a little confused by the disk/no disk version thing. Do you know where you got the no disk version?
